As you can see we have been working on updating the LASS website in an attempt to improve communications between club members. We have also added forums so please register on the LASS forums. The forums should be a great way to let everyone know what is going on and when. Planning on setting up a winch on a weekend? Post it on the forums so others will know. Some areas of the LASS forums are only viewable by club members only. So drop us an email HERE with the username you registered under and your real name and we will make sure you get access to those areas.
21 May 2008 We had a good contest for April, The task started out as 5 min Duration witha 10 pts spot in or out. 6 showed up to fly and almost all got their 5 min duration times! Even Doc had a 5 min flight and landed ok.
We had a few equipment problems but we prevailed. Winch drum sheared its pin. Gary used a C clamp threaded part as a pin - Gary, that part is toast - it got nearly sheared, thanks to you we were able to keep going! I replaced it with a 1/4" cotter pin. Retriever took a #!$*!*&! the driven pulley began slipping on the shaft. I've since drilled, tapped and installed 2 new stainless steel set screws.
Back to flying.
Gary Atkinson kicked our butts with nearly perfect flights every time , 4 points separated first and second I got 3rd place.
Stew was the CD (he forgot his transmitter!) or we would have had 7 contenders. He handed out Nice home-made trophies in reverse order and added a twist to the flight task.
The winner of the first round got to pick the task for the next round. Kent was the high man after the first round and kept the task @ 5 min duration with an in/out spot worth 10 pts. Now here's where Stew got nuts , the lowest score of the second round got to pick the task for the next round. I'm not sure what to call this ? Winners/Losers choice? That was Doc. He wanted to fly a 1 minute task but we beat him up and said we'd be done in 10 minutes. He went along and said "okay you wimps 5 min duration". It was a good day. Unfortunately Doc ended up busting his plane when a sudden gust hit him right before touch down. Kent will fix it..... again, Kent said, " the epoxy from the first repair wasn't fully cured yet !"
We flew at Carpenter Field on the "front lawn" had a few rain drops at the start and I didn't even have my plane out yet, but that was it. The wind stayed to the Southeast and was tolerable , it slowly picked up but wasn't really too bad. I learned not to go too far downwind to make my turn. I missed all 3 of my landings. The VORE Light is good but I haven't learned how to use it yet. Towhook location is wrong for me so I think I'll install the one Tim Kirkessner gave me! Thanks Tim !
